Laurel Knob Baptist Church
OUR HISTORY
Laurel Knob Baptist Church was organized on November 8, 1912, with nineteen charter members. Meetings were held on the second Saturday and Sunday of each month at 11:00 am. Members traveled to church on horseback or on foot. Originally, the church petitioned the Three Forks Baptist Association for membership on June 7, 1913; however, Laurel Knob withdrew from the Three Forks Association and sent delegates to the Ashe Baptist Association in August of 1920. The original building was a white-frame structure located on the old gravel road just above the current location. In the early days of the church, revival services would run for two weeks. Services were held two times each day, at 11:00 am and then again in the evening. The families would leave their work in the fields to attend mid-day revival meetings.
The Laurel Knob Baptist Church met in this building until 1958. Under the leadership of the Rev. G. C. Burkett, the people of the community built the present structure. The new sanctuary was dedicated in 1958. Several renovations and projects have taken place since that time including the addition of a Fellowship Hall in 2008 and extensive renovations in 2009 including restrooms, a work room, and Sunday School rooms upstairs and additional renovations in the basement.
